WESTGATE DISC GOLF
‘MUDDI CLASSIC I’
Westgate disc golf in Muddiford North Devon hosted the ‘Muddi Classic’ on Boxing Day 2009 on the Wellyboot course. The weather held out and the first hyzer drives were thrown high into the warm morning sun at 11.15am to start the dog leg left first target. Martin Taylor (rookie) launched his Pig putt and approach disc on an almost perfect trajectory only to be foiled by the electricity cables.
All competitors played the first three targets which completed the Junior and Amateur combined event:
Winner Overall Junior & Amateur Josh Thomas (round of 13)
Runner Up Martin Taylor (round of 15)
Winner Ladies Amateur Suzy Thomas (round of 17)
There were some great performances across the field including an amazing hole in one on the second for Lucas Taylor, the most improved player went to Ollie Thomas who has developed a great rhythm and finally the muddiest face award was won by James Thomas following some extreme puddle jumping.
The Senior Event continued around the remainder of the nine target Wellyboot course in mild conditions but the prevailing wind speed increased resulting in some wayward throws and scores higher than the course record of 33 set during the previous year’s event.
Winner Overall Senior Chris Thomas (round of 37)
Runner Up Simon Thomas (round of 41)
‘Skins’ are awarded for each target where the player wins by at least one clear shot creating the final element of the open competition which included all the players.
Winner Chris Thomas (4 from 9 played)
Runner Up Lucas Taylor (1 from 3 played)
Runner Up Josh Thomas (1 from 3 played)
Runner Up Simon Thomas (1 from 9 played)
